Does the B Corp legal change requirement affect your ability to sell the company?

Venture capital and public companies have invested over $1 billion in B Corps so far. For evidence on the transactional activity of B Corps, see: Who is investing in B Corps? So there is little reason to be concerned that being a B Corp will hinder a business's chances to succeed or sell - if anything, it may well improve its chances.

Extract from B Lab UK document:

The B Corp legal framework is designed to enable high impact companies to maintain their mission through changes in leadership and ownership.

Certified B Corporations can:

  • Encourage competition based on commitment to mission in addition to price
  • Consider other factors besides price when  making the decision of whether and to whome to sell
  • Retain or remove certifcation directly prior or after sale depending on the current and new owners' preferences
